Dying of the Light

Evan Lake has spent his career as an analyst for the CIA, and age has brought a decline he can no longer hide. Facing forced retirement, his world shifts when a younger colleague, Milton Schultz, learns that Muhammad Banir, the terrorist who once tortured Lake and has long been presumed dead, appears to be alive. Rather than accept the end of his service, Lake sets out against orders to track Banir down and settle the debt between them, helped by Schultz.

Paul Schrader directs and wrote the screenplay, the sixteenth of the twenty-two features he has directed, made between Venice 70: Future Reloaded and Dog Eat Dog. Nicolas Cage plays Evan Lake, with Anton Yelchin as Milton Schultz, Alexander Karim as Banir, and Irène Jacob and Aymen Hamdouchi among the supporting cast. The production, a Bahamas and United States co-production, cost about 15 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.1 out of 10 from 37 reviews, while audiences on TMDB give it 4.7 out of 10 across a larger number of votes; both sit below the midpoint, with the audience figure somewhat more forgiving than the critical one. The film runs 94 minutes.
