The Resurrected

A private detective is hired by a woman to look into her husband's activities. Charles Dexter Ward, a scientist, has been conducting disturbing experiments at an isolated family property, work that grows out of old records and remains connected to a sorcerer who died centuries earlier. The investigation draws the detective toward a truth about the husband that is worse than anything the wife suspected.

The film is an adaptation of an H. P. Lovecraft story, and Dan O'Bannon directed it as the second of the two features he made, following The Return of the Living Dead in 1985. Brent V. Friedman wrote the screenplay, and the producers were Kenneth Raich and Mark Borde. Chris Sarandon plays Charles Dexter Ward opposite Jane Sibbett as Claire Ward, with John Terry as the detective John March, Robert Romanus as Lonnie Peck, Laurie Briscoe as Holly Tender and Ken Camroux-Taylor as Captain Ben Szandor.

Running 105 minutes, the film mixes horror, science fiction and thriller elements. On IMDb its rating stands at 5.7 out of 10 from five critics' reviews, while on TMDB it holds 6.2 out of 10 from 140 votes, so the audience score sits somewhat above the critics' figure.
