Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows continues the adventures of the four mutant brothers, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, as they protect New York alongside reporter April O'Neil. When their old enemy Shredder breaks out of custody with help from the scientist Baxter Stockman, he teams up with the brute mutants Bebop and Rocksteady to carry out a plan for global conquest. The Turtles, joined by April's colleague Vern Fenwick and the masked vigilante Casey Jones, soon discover that Shredder's scheme is tied to a far more dangerous threat from another world.
Dave Green directed the film, which followed his debut Ham Sandwich and Earth to Echo and preceded Coyote vs. Acme. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec wrote the screenplay, and Michael Bay, Galen Walker and Andrew Form produced. The cast includes Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher as the Turtles, with Megan Fox as April and Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, among a credited cast of 47 and a crew of 362.
Made for about 135 million dollars, the film took in roughly 246 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from around 106,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from far fewer voters. Critics rated it 4.7 out of 10 across 173 reviews, below both audience scores.

- Professional Irish wrestler Sheamus (real name Stephen Farrelly) played the role of Rocksteady.
- The film was originally scheduled for release in 2017.
- Producers offered cameo roles in the film to Elias Koteas (the first actor to play Casey Jones in live-action) and Sam Rockwell (who played the gang leader), but they declined the offer.
- As a child, director Dave Green was a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and wore a Donatello costume.
