Amos & Andrew

Andrew Sterling, a successful Black playwright, buys a vacation home in a New England resort town. A neighbor mistakes him for a burglar and calls the police, who surround the house with armed officers before Chief Cecil Tolliver realizes the man inside is the new owner. Fearing a public scandal, Tolliver arranges for Amos Odell, a small-time criminal held in the local jail, to enter the house and stage a fake kidnapping so the police can claim they were dealing with a hostage situation rather than their own error.

The film is a comedy directed by E. Max Frye, who also wrote the screenplay, with Gary Goetzman producing. Samuel L. Jackson plays Andrew Sterling and Nicolas Cage plays Amos Odell, while Michael Lerner, Margaret Colin, Dabney Coleman and Brad Dourif appear in supporting roles.
