A librarian in the small town of Lawrenceton, Georgia, Aurora Teagarden belongs to a club whose members meet to discuss real-life murder cases. When an elderly acquaintance named Jane Engle dies and names Aurora as her heir, the bequest turns out to include money, jewellery and a house. Inside that house Aurora finds a human skull, and she comes to believe that Jane deliberately left her a killing to unravel. Identifying the victim and working out which of Jane's apparently ordinary neighbours is responsible becomes her task.
The film is directed by Martin Wood, working from a screenplay by Teena Booth, and is based on the first novel in Charlaine Harris's Aurora Teagarden series. It sits between Wood's Stargate: Continuum and his later television films, among them Christmas in the Air and Operation Christmas Drop. Candace Cameron-Bure plays Aurora, with Lexa Doig as Sally Allison, Marilu Henner as Aida Teagarden, Peter Benson as Arthur Smith, Miranda Frigon as Lynn Liggett and Bruce Dawson as John Queensland. Jane's death and the inheritance are the starting point rather than the whole story, and the mystery is resolved within the film.
Released in April 2015, it runs 83 minutes and belongs to the crime, drama and mystery genres as a television movie made in Canada and the United States. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 114 votes, a modest but positive response.
