Short description

Frozen Fever is a short animated film in which Anna celebrates her birthday and Elsa and Kristoff try to arrange the best possible party for her. Their plans run into trouble because Elsa has caught a cold, and her ice powers react in ways that disrupt the preparations. The story is set in the same kingdom as Frozen and takes place after the events of that film.

The short was directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, who had previously made Frozen together and went on to make Frozen II. It sits between those two features in their shared filmography. Buck's earlier directing work includes Tarzan and Surf's Up, while Lee's directing credits begin with Frozen. The screenplay is credited to Buck, Lee and Marc Smith, with Peter Del Vecho producing. Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, Santino Fontana and Chris Williams provide voices.

Running just eight minutes, the film belongs to the same adventure, animation, comedy, family and fantasy territory as its parent feature. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from roughly 19,000 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 6.8 from about 1,900 votes, a level of agreement that suggests a modest but consistent response from viewers.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Anna is celebrating her 19th birthday.
  • During a playful cake fight in the castle courtyard, greeting cards can be noticed in the distance. If you pause the viewing at a certain point, the letters on them arrange themselves into the words “hairy ant band”.
  • To celebrate the release of the short film, the MMORPG game "Club Penguin" hosted a "Frozen Celebration Party" which ran online from April 23rd to May 6th and in the "Club Penguin" app until May 20th.
  • "Frozen Fever" (2015) was the second short film from "Walt Disney Animation Studios" to serve as a sequel to a feature film. The first was "Tangled Ever After" (2012), a short film released on the heels of the success of the feature-length animated film "Tangled" (2010).
  • The short sequel in the 'Frozen' universe introduces new characters – tiny snowmen that appear when Elsa sneezes.
  • With the exception of Marshmallow, voiced by F. Murray Abraham in "Frozen" (2013), all other characters in the short film were voiced by the same actors who voiced them in the feature-length prequel.
  • At the very beginning of the song "Making Today a Perfect Day," you can catch a snippet from "Life's Too Short," a song that was cut from the computer-animated film "Frozen" (2013) during final editing.
  • Oken will sing on screen for the first time. He did not sing in "Frozen" (2013).
  • The short film "Frozen Fever" debuted in theaters before the screening of Kenneth Branagh's "Cinderella" (2015).
  • The full-length animated film "Frozen" (2013) shows Anna waking Elsa up. In the 2015 sequel, Elsa wakes up Anna instead.
  • At the beginning of the film, Elsa creates an ice sculpture depicting her embracing a frozen Anna. This happened at the end of the animated film "Frozen" (2013).
  • The song "Making Today a Perfect Day" contains references to compositions from the prequel "Frozen" (2013). Elsa’s line, “I don’t care about the cold,” echoes the song "Let It Go." Anna takes a sandwich, reminding the audience of the song "Love Is an Open Door." The scene where Elsa and Anna ride bikes through the castle is a reference to the song "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?"
