In a near-future world where overpopulation has drained the planet's resources and industrial food supplies are gone, a man survives alone on a small plot hidden deep in the woods of Northern Ireland. He guards his land and his crops carefully, keeping contact with other people to a minimum. His routine is disrupted when two women, Kathryn and her daughter Milja, find the farm and ask for food and shelter. Their arrival forces him to weigh his isolation against the presence of others, and the three form an uneasy household in which trust is hard to maintain. Masked raiders prowling the area add to the pressure on what little stability he has.
The film is the debut feature of writer-director Stephen Fingleton, who also wrote the screenplay. Martin McCann plays the unnamed Survivalist, with Mia Goth as Milja and Olwen Fouéré as Kathryn. It is a co-production between Germany, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, made with backing from the BFI, Goldcrest, The Fyzz and Northern Ireland Screen, and runs 104 minutes.
On IMDb, viewers rate the film 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 400 votes. A critics' rating of 7.5 out of 10 from 47 reviews places it noticeably higher with reviewers than with general audiences.
