Short description
Zoolander 2 returns to the world of male modelling, where Derek Zoolander and Hansel have long been forgotten by the industry they once led. Both men have withdrawn from public life following personal setbacks, but a string of killings targeting famous celebrities draws them back into the spotlight. The victims are found with a distinctive pose, and an Interpol agent working in fashion policing seeks Derek's help in identifying whoever is behind the crimes. Their investigation takes them to Rome, where a major fashion event offers Derek a chance to rebuild his career and his relationship with his son. Their old enemy Mugatu is also part of the picture.
Ben Stiller directs and stars, with Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Penélope Cruz, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen among the large credited cast. The screenplay was written by Justin Theroux, Stiller and John Hamburg. It is the sixth feature Stiller directed, arriving fifteen years after the first Zoolander and between The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost. Produced for around 50 million dollars, it grossed roughly 57 million worldwide.
Audience ratings place it low: 4.7 out of 10 on IMDb from over 74,000 votes and 4.9 out of 10 on TMDB. A critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 233 reviews falls slightly below those audience figures, leaving little separation between the two.
