Dad's Army

Dad's Army is a British comedy set in 1944, as the Allied invasion of France is under way. In the coastal town of Walmington-on-Sea, the local Home Guard platoon, a group of volunteers turned down for active service, has been assigned to protect a military installation at Dover. Their morale is low, and the arrival of a glamorous journalist, Rose Winters, sent to write about their exploits, distracts several of the men. When British intelligence learns that a German spy may be operating among the platoon, the mission descends into confusion.

The film is a remake of the long-running British television sitcom of the same name, directed by Oliver Parker and written by Hamish McColl with the sitcom's creators, Jimmy Perry and David Croft, credited. It is the eighth feature Parker directed, following Johnny English Reborn and arriving before The Great Escaper. Toby Jones plays Captain Mainwaring and Bill Nighy plays Sergeant Wilson, with Catherine Zeta-Jones as Rose Winters. Michael Gambon, Mark Gatiss and Sarah Lancashire also appear among a credited cast of 33.

Released on 5 February 2016, the film runs 100 minutes and was produced in the United Kingdom and France by Universal Pictures, Pathé, DJ Films and Screen Yorkshire. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from around 8,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5 from roughly 226 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 35 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
