War on Everyone

Two corrupt police officers, Bob Bolaño and Terry Monroe, work the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico, extorting and framing the criminals who cross their path. Their racket runs smoothly until they try to lean on a strip-club manager, Russell Birdwell, whose wealthy British employer, Lord James Mangan, turns out to be a far more dangerous proposition than the pair expected. What begins as a shakedown shifts into something more personal as the two officers stumble onto a secret connected to Mangan.

John Michael McDonagh wrote and directed the film, his third feature after The Guard (2011) and Calvary (2014), and his first set in the United States. Michael Peña plays Bob and Alexander Skarsgård plays Terry, with Theo James as Mangan, Tessa Thompson as Jackie Hollis, Caleb Landry Jones as Birdwell and Stephanie Sigman as Dolores Bolaño. The production was British, made by Head Gear Films among others, and runs 98 minutes.

On TMDB the film holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 482 votes, a modest reception from the users who have logged it. The cast and the writer-director's established voice place it as a crime comedy with a violent streak, sitting between McDonagh's earlier Irish-set films and his later work The Forgiven (2022).
