Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie

Set in a future Japan where cybernetics and networked personalities are common, the story follows Major Motoko Kusanagi and her elite special operations team. After the Japanese Prime Minister is assassinated, the group is tasked with investigating the attack and tracking a ghost-infecting virus known as Fire-Starter. As they search for the source of the infection, the investigation reveals ties to government corruption and cyber-terrorists capable of stealing human memories and bodies.

This animated science fiction film was produced by Studio Lagurus and Production I.G. It was co-directed by Kazuchika Kise and Kazuya Nomura. For Kise, this project followed four films in the Arise series and preceded the release of Pyrophoric Cult. For Nomura, it was the first of two listed directing credits, followed by BlackFox. The screenplay was written by Tow Ubukata. The voice cast features Maaya Sakamoto as Motoko Kusanagi, alongside Ikkyu Juku, Kenichirou Matsuda, Tarusuke Shingaki, Shunsuke Sakuya, and Takuro Nakakuni.

The film earned 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. It has received a consistent reception from viewers, holding a rating of 6.6/10 on IMDb from 4,400 votes and 6.6/10 on TMDB from 236 votes.
