Jean is a builder who leads a settled life, dividing his time between his work, his wife, his young son and his father. When he meets Véronique Chambon, his son's schoolteacher, the two discover an unexpected connection. She is single and moves in a very different social circle from his, yet they gradually get to know one another, and the feelings that grow between them unsettle the direction each of their lives had been taking. The situation forces them to weigh what they have against what they are beginning to want.
Stéphane Brizé directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Florence Vignon, with Rémi Burah, Jean-Louis Livi and Miléna Poylo producing. Vincent Lindon plays Jean and Sandrine Kiberlain plays Véronique, with Aure Atika, Jean-Marc Thibault, Bruno Lochet and Abdellah Moundy in supporting roles. Running 101 minutes, it was Brizé's first feature in the list of his directed films, made before The Measure of a Man, A Woman's Life, Out of Season and A Good Little Soldier.
