Personal Shopper

Maureen, a young American living in Paris, works as a personal shopper for a demanding celebrity, buying luxury clothes and accessories she cannot afford herself. The job is not what keeps her in the city. She stays because she is waiting for a sign from her twin brother Lewis, who died in Paris, and she shares his claimed ability to communicate with the dead. Her vigil is interrupted when an unknown person begins sending her a series of text messages, and a ghostly presence enters her life without making clear whether it is her brother.

Olivier Assayas wrote and directed the film, the eleventh of the fifteen features he has directed, following Clouds of Sils Maria and preceding Non-Fiction. Kristen Stewart plays Maureen; the cast also includes Lars Eidinger, Sigrid Bouaziz and Anders Danielsen Lie, among a credited company of thirty-three actors, with Charles Gillibert producing.

Personal Shopper was released in December 2016 and runs 106 minutes. It is a co-production of Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, France and the Czech Republic. Made for about 6 million dollars, it returned roughly 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 46,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 out of 10 from 1,350 votes. A critics' rating of 7.2 out of 10 from 274 reviews places professional response well above the audience scores on both sites.
