Our Family Wedding

Our Family Wedding is a comedy about Lucia and Marcus, a young couple who met in college and decide to marry. Announcing their engagement to their families unexpectedly sets off friction: Lucia's father, Miguel, and Marcus's father, Brad, are two strong-willed men with an old grudge between them, and their attempts to settle it repeatedly collide with the wedding preparations. Lucia's mother, Sonia, has opinions of her own about how the day should go, while Angela, a lawyer and friend of the groom's father, tries to keep matters from getting out of hand. The weeks before the ceremony become a mix of comedy and strain as the two families try to get through it.

Rick Famuyiwa directed and co-wrote the film with Malcolm Spellman and Wayne Conley. It followed his earlier features The Wood and Brown Sugar and was his third directed film, before Dope, Confirmation and Ugo: A Homecoming Story. Forest Whitaker plays Brad and America Ferrera plays Lucia, with Carlos Mencia, Regina King, Lance Gross and Diana Maria Riva also starring among a credited cast of 28. Edward Saxon and Steven J. Wolfe produced.

Released in March 2010, the film had a budget of 14 million USD and took about 21 million USD worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 3.7/10 from 88 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 5.6/10 from 143 votes, showing audiences responding somewhat more favorably than critics.
