Born Romantic is a British romantic comedy set in present-day London, where a salsa club becomes a regular meeting place for three men and three women navigating the complications of love. Fergus, a musician, hopes to reconnect with Mo, the fiancée he left years earlier. Eddie, a pickpocket, becomes involved with Jocelyn, and the divorced Frankie tries to get closer to the reserved Eleanor. Their paths cross on the dance floor and off it, as they move between attraction, separation and reconciliation. A mini-cab driver, Jimmy, and his fellow driver provide running commentary on romance and sex throughout.
David Kane wrote and directed the film, his second feature after This Year's Love, with Michele Camarda producing for United Artists, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, BBC Film and Random Harvest Pictures. The cast is led by Craig Ferguson, Jane Horrocks, Adrian Lester, Catherine McCormack, Jimi Mistry and David Morrissey, among twenty credited performers. Running 96 minutes, the film was released in September 2000.
On IMDb, Born Romantic holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from around 1,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from roughly 30 votes. The larger IMDb sample points to a modest but enduring level of interest.
