Short description
Ant-Man and the Wasp continues the story of Scott Lang, who is nearing the end of a period of house arrest when Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym bring him an urgent new mission. Hoping to keep his freedom while staying close to his daughter in San Francisco, Scott is drawn back into the role of Ant-Man and must once again shrink and grow to face a powerful new threat. Hope takes on the mantle of the Wasp, fighting alongside him as the pair work to uncover long-buried secrets from the past and confront a dangerous adversary.
The film was directed by Peyton Reed, the fourth of his seven features and the second entry in his run of Ant-Man films, following Ant-Man (2015) and preceding Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). Paul Rudd returns as Scott Lang and shares screenplay credit with Andrew Barrer and Chris McKenna. Evangeline Lilly plays Hope Van Dyne, Michael Douglas returns as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer appears as Janet Van Dyne, with Hannah John-Kamen as Ava and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo among a credited cast of 77.
Produced by Marvel Studios on a budget of 140 million USD, the film was released on July 4, 2018, and took in 623 million USD worldwide, a strong return on its cost. It holds a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from 492,000 votes and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 14,520 votes, while film critics gave it 7 out of 10 across 444 reviews, placing audience and critical assessments closely in line.
