Complete Unknown

Tom Brayton is celebrating his birthday with friends and his wife in New York when Alice, a woman he once loved, appears among the guests. She vanished years earlier after changing her identity, and she now insists she is someone else entirely. Tom becomes convinced they share a past that she refuses to acknowledge, and his attempts to understand who she really is unsettle the settled life he has built. The evening turns into a meeting between a man who feels the need for change and a woman determined to avoid it.

Joshua Marston directed the film, his third feature after Maria Full of Grace and the anthology contribution New York, I Love You, and he wrote the screenplay with Julian Sheppard. Rachel Weisz plays Alice and Michael Shannon plays Tom, with supporting turns from Kathy Bates, Danny Glover, Michael Chernus and Azita Ghanizada among a credited cast of 25. The film runs 90 minutes and was released in August 2016.

It draws modest responses from viewers, sitting at 5.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 6,800 votes and 5.2 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 195 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 77 reviews places critical opinion slightly above the audience scores.
