22 Bullets

Charly Matteï has spent three years away from his criminal past, living quietly in Marseille with his wife and two children. That peace ends one winter morning when he is ambushed in a parking garage near the old port and shot repeatedly, the attackers leaving him for dead with twenty-two bullets in his body. He survives, and once he recovers he sets out to find whoever ordered the killing. The police get no cooperation from him, but he has his own suspicions, and one man in particular, Tony Zacchia, becomes the focus of his search.

The film is a French crime drama directed by Richard Berry, his second feature after Black Box in 2005, and he also appears in the cast as Aurelio Rampoli. Jean Reno plays Charly, with Kad Merad as Tony Zacchia, Marina Foïs as Marie Goldman, Jean-Pierre Darroussin as Martin Beaudinard and JoeyStarr as Pistachio. Berry wrote the screenplay with Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, and Pierre-Ange Le Pogam produced. The story draws on real events in the Marseille underworld, though much of it is invented.

Released in 2010, the film runs 117 minutes. Against a budget of about 18 million dollars it took in roughly the same amount worldwide, so it did not become a major commercial success. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 38,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 from a much smaller base of 1,378 votes. A critics' score of 5.1 from 12 reviews places it below the audience ratings.
