800 Bullets

In the desert of Tabernas, near Almería in southern Spain, a run-down western town stands as a relic of the years when American productions filmed there. By 2002, no westerns have been shot for decades, and Julián Torralba, a veteran stuntman, keeps the place alive with a small troupe of fellow stunt performers, staging action shows for the few tourists who make the trip. Their routine is disrupted by the arrival of Julián's young grandson Carlos, and by a pair of property developers who want to tear the town down and replace it with a theme park. Refusing to let the site be destroyed, Julián sets out to fight for it.

Álex de la Iglesia directed and co-wrote the film with Jorge Guerricaechevarría, and also produced it. It was his fourth feature, following Common Wealth (2000) and preceding The Ferpect Crime (2004), within a filmography of thirteen directing credits. Sancho Gracia plays Julián, with Ángel de Andrés López, Carmen Maura, Eusebio Poncela, Luis Castro and Manuel Tallafé in the main roles, among a credited cast of twenty-nine. The film was made for about 4 million USD and took around 2 million USD worldwide.
