Lane Daniels is a freelance fashion writer in New York who wants two things: a career at Cosmopolitan and a man who meets every requirement on a list she has kept since college. When the magazine turns down her pitch, she proposes an experiment instead, going undercover in the world of finance to test whether love can be found in the workplace. Posing as an employee at a financial firm, she dates men in suits while trying to deliver the article that could earn her a place at the magazine. The arrangement becomes complicated as her professional ambition and her feelings pull in different directions.
The film is a romantic comedy directed by Gil Junger, released in 2010 as a television movie. It sits between If Only and Christmas Cupid in the sequence of his feature directing work, which began with 10 Things I Hate About You in 1999. Hilary Duff leads as Lane, with Michael McMillian, Amanda Walsh, Chris Carmack, Jaime Pressly and Jennifer Coolidge among the cast. It is based on Daniella Brodsky's novel Diary of a Working Girl, and runs 83 minutes.
Audience scores are modest: on IMDb it holds 5.4/10 from around 14,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9/10 from roughly 421 votes. The smaller TMDB sample is slightly more favorable, but both point to a middling reception rather than strong enthusiasm.
