Alita: Battle Angel

Alita: Battle Angel is set in the 26th century, three hundred years after a devastating war, in a world divided between the floating city of Zalem and the scrap-strewn Iron City below. A cyborg doctor named Dyson Ido discovers the remains of a female cyborg in a junkyard and rebuilds her using a body he had once prepared for his own daughter. The revived woman, Alita, has no memory of who she is or where she came from, though she soon learns she possesses extraordinary combat abilities. As powerful and corrupt forces in Iron City take an interest in her, Alita sets out to recover her past and decide what to do with the skills she discovers.

The film was directed by Robert Rodriguez, the twentieth of the twenty-four features he has directed in chronological order, following Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and preceding We Can Be Heroes. James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis wrote the screenplay, and Cameron produced alongside Rodriguez and Jon Landau. Rosa Salazar plays Alita, with Christoph Waltz as Dr. Ido, Jennifer Connelly as Chiren, Mahershala Ali as Vector, Ed Skrein as Zapan, and Jackie Earle Haley as Grewishka.

Released in early 2019, the film carries a runtime of 122 minutes. Against a budget of 170 million USD, it earned 405 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from 322,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 7.3 from 10,400 votes. A film critics' rating of 6.1 from 329 reviews places it below those audience scores.
