Bright

Bright takes place in a present-day Los Angeles where humans share the city with orcs, elves and other magical beings, and where the police run a unit devoted to crimes involving magic. Daryl Ward, a human officer, is paired with Nick Jakoby, the department's first orc officer, a partnership neither of them wanted. During a routine night patrol the two find a powerful magical wand that had been thought destroyed. The weapon is lethal to any human who tries to use it, and it is sought by various parties, including an elf named Leilah who wants it back. Ward and Jakoby end up caught between rival factions fighting over the object and over territory. Will Smith and Joel Edgerton star, with Lucy Fry, Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramírez and Ike Barinholtz in supporting roles.

David Ayer directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Max Landis. It followed Suicide Squad in Ayer's filmography and came before The Tax Collector, marking a move into fantasy after a run of crime and war films that included End of Watch and Fury. The production had a budget of about 90 million dollars, a large figure for its genre.

Audience reaction was mixed: on IMDb the film holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 209,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 6,000 votes. A film critics' rating of 4.1 out of 10, based on 113 reviews, is noticeably lower than those viewer scores.
