Ocean's Eight

Debbie Ocean, sister of the thief Danny Ocean, leaves prison after nearly six years and immediately sets about assembling an all-female crew for a robbery she has spent that time planning. The target is a diamond necklace worth roughly 150 million dollars, and the setting is the annual Met Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum, where the jewel will be worn in front of a large crowd. Debbie and her longtime partner Lou recruit a jeweller, a pickpocket, a hacker, a fashion designer and a woman who moves stolen goods, each bringing a different skill to a scheme that leaves little room for error. A vain celebrity wearing the necklace and a corrupt gallery owner figure in the plan.

Gary Ross directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Olivia Milch. It followed his Free State of Jones and is his fifth feature as director, after Pleasantville, Seabiscuit and The Hunger Games. Sandra Bullock plays Debbie, Cate Blanchett plays Lou, and Anne Hathaway appears as Daphne Kluger, with Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson and Awkwafina among the crew. George Clooney, Steven Soderbergh and Susan Ekins produced.

Made for about 70 million dollars, the film took close to 298 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 260,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9 out of 10 from around 9,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.3 out of 10, drawn from 361 reviews, sits level with the IMDb score and below the TMDB one.
