Short description
Set between the two World Wars and based on true historical events, Bitter Harvest conveys the untold story of the Holodomor, the genocidal famine engineered by the tyrant Joseph Stalin. The film displays a powerful tale of love, honour, rebellion and survival at a time when Ukraine was forced to adjust to the horrifying territorial ambitions of the burgeoning Soviet Union.

- Max Irons and his co-star Aneurin Barnard played the brothers Edward IV and Richard III in "The White Queen" (2013).
- In 2008, Richard Sutton, a Canadian of Ukrainian origin and a screenwriter, sought financial support from Ukrainian authorities and elites for his project about the Holodomor. In 2011, Yan Ignatovich, a Ukrainian-Canadian, became a sponsor, allocating $21 million for production.
- 'Devil's Harvest' is Richard Sutton's debut screenwriting and producing project.
- Filming took place from November 2013 to February 2014 in Kyiv. Underwater scenes were filmed at the Pinewood Studios in London, in the same special water tank used for the production of James Bond films.
