The Switch

Kassie Larson is a single woman in New York who decides she no longer wants to wait for the right partner before having a child. Her best friend Wally Mars, a neurotic and pessimistic man, objects to the plan, but Kassie goes ahead and chooses Roland, a charming and seemingly dependable donor. At a party held to mark the insemination, a drunk Wally makes a last-minute switch that nobody notices at the time. Kassie moves away to raise her son, and only years later, when she returns to New York, does Wally meet the boy, Sebastian, whose quirks and habits remind him uncomfortably of himself.

The film is a romantic comedy directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, who had previously made Blades of Glory and later went on to Office Christmas Party, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile and Long Distance. Allan Loeb wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Jennifer Aniston as Kassie, Jason Bateman as Wally, Patrick Wilson as Roland, Thomas Robinson as Sebastian, Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis, among 23 credited performers.

Released in August 2010, the film runs 101 minutes and was produced on a budget of 16 million dollars, earning about 50 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 117,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 154 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
