Veeram is a historical drama set in sixteenth-century North Malabar. Drawing from regional ballads, the story follows an ambitious Kalarippayattu warrior named Chandu. His pursuit of power and the resulting conflict mirror the plot of William Shakespeare's Macbeth. In a tale of betrayal, Chandu murders his cousin, the powerful Aromal Chekaver, during a duel. This act of violence triggers a cycle of revenge involving Aromal's sister, the warrior Unniyarcha, and her son.
The film was written and directed by Jayaraj, appearing in his filmography after Loudspeaker and before Mehfil. The production was handled by Chandrakala Arts and produced by Chandramohan D Pillai. The cast features Kunal Kapoor as Chandu Chekaver, alongside Divinaa Thackur, Shivajith Padmanabhan, Himarsha Venkatsamy, Satheesh Menon, and Ahran Chaudhary.
Produced with a budget of 350 million USD, the movie has received moderate feedback from viewers. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 6.3/10 based on 325 votes, while its rating on TMDB is 5.8/10 from 11 votes.
