Peter Highman is an architect in Atlanta for work when he learns his wife is about to give birth to their first child. Racing to the airport to fly home to Los Angeles, he has a run-in with Ethan Tremblay, an aspiring actor with theatrical tendencies, and misses his flight. Left without his wallet and luggage, Peter ends up travelling cross-country with the very man who caused his problems, accompanied by Ethan's French bulldog, meeting a series of odd characters along the way.
Due Date was released in 2010 and is Todd Phillips's seventh directorial feature, arriving between The Hangover and The Hangover Part II. Phillips wrote the screenplay with Adam Sztykiel, Alan R. Cohen, and produced it with Daniel Goldberg. Robert Downey Jr. plays Peter and Zach Galifianakis plays Ethan; Michelle Monaghan, Jamie Foxx, Juliette Lewis and Danny McBride appear in supporting roles.
The film cost about 65 million USD and took roughly 212 million USD worldwide, a strong return for a mid-budget comedy. On IMDb it holds 6.5/10 from some 371,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4/10 from around 5,980 votes. A critics' rating of 5.2/10 from 195 reviews is noticeably lower than the audience scores.
