It Comes at Night centres on Paul, who has moved his wife Sarah and teenage son Travis into an isolated house in the woods while an unnamed sickness ravages the world outside. To keep the family safe, he imposes strict rules and a rigid routine, and the household's fragile order is tested when a stranger named Will turns up at the door. Will persuades Paul to take in his wife, Kim, and their young son, Andrew, but the arrangement between the two families soon gives way to suspicion and fear.
Trey Edward Shults wrote and directed the film, his second feature after Krisha and the second in his filmography, with Andrea Roa and David Kaplan producing. Joel Edgerton leads as Paul, alongside Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Griffin Robert Faulkner. It was released in June 2017 and runs 91 minutes.
Made for about 5 million dollars, the film took roughly 19 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 111,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 out of 10 from roughly 2,700 votes. A critics' rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 256 reviews places it noticeably above those audience scores.
