Crooked House

Crooked House is a British-American crime mystery set in late 1950s England. Private investigator Charles Hayward is drawn into the household of the wealthy Leonides family after the patriarch, Aristide, dies under suspicious circumstances. His granddaughter Sophia, with whom Charles was once involved, asks him to look into the death before the police take over. What he finds is a large family living together in a grand estate, where resentment, jealousy and competing motives make nearly everyone a possible suspect, including Aristide's much younger wife.

The film was directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, his fifth feature after Payoff, Walled In, Sarah's Key and Dark Places, from a screenplay he wrote with Julian Fellowes and Tim Rose Price. It is based on Agatha Christie's novel. Max Irons plays Charles, Stefanie Martini plays Sophia, and Glenn Close appears as Lady Edith de Haviland, with Christina Hendricks, Terence Stamp and Honor Kneafsey among a credited cast of thirty.

Released in September 2017, the film took about 2 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.3 from roughly 30,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 from about a thousand. A critics' rating of 5.1 from thirty reviews places it below the audience scores.
