The Infidel

Mahmud Nasir is a London taxi company owner and family man who has never been especially observant about his Muslim faith. When his son Rashid wants to marry Uzma, the stepdaughter of Arshad Al-Masri, a hardline preacher, Mahmud agrees to present himself as a properly devout Muslim so the wedding can go ahead. Around the same time, going through his late mother's papers, he learns he was adopted, that his birth parents were Jewish, and that his original name was Solly Shimshillewitz. The discovery throws his sense of who he is into confusion.

Josh Appignanesi directed the film from a screenplay by David Baddiel, who also produced alongside Uzma Hasan and Arvind Ethan David. Omid Djalili plays Mahmud, with Richard Schiff as Lenny Goldberg, Archie Panjabi as Saamiya Nasir, Igal Naor as Arshad El-Masri, Stewart Scudamore as Tariq and Mina Anwar as Muna among a credited cast of 33. Released in 2010 and running 105 minutes, it is a British comedy drama.
