Vice

Vice follows Dick Cheney from his hard-drinking younger years in Wyoming, where he worked on power lines after washing out of college, to a Washington internship that set him on a political path. He rises through several administrations, serves as defense secretary, and eventually becomes George W. Bush's running mate in the 2000 election. Once in the vice presidency, Cheney quietly builds influence and helps steer the country's response to the September 11 attacks, including moves toward war in Iraq.

Adam McKay directed and wrote the film, his eighth feature and his second after The Big Short, continuing his move from broad comedies toward politically charged material. Christian Bale plays Cheney, with Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld, Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush, Alison Pill as Mary Cheney and Eddie Marsan as Paul Wolfowitz. Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell and Dede Gardner are among the producers.

Made for about 40 million dollars, the film took in roughly 76 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 7.2 rating from over 176,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 from far fewer votes, and critics gave it 6.7 from 366 reviews, so audiences and critics landed in a similar middle range.
