Memoir of a Murderer

Memoir of a Murderer centres on Byung-su, a man whose life is shaped by two things he cannot escape: a past as a serial killer and advancing Alzheimer's disease, which is eroding his memory. He has lived quietly for seventeen years and now shares a home with his adult daughter, Eun-hee. When women are found dead in the area, Byung-su is unsure whether he is responsible and simply cannot recall the acts. His attention settles on Tae-ju, a policeman who becomes involved with Eun-hee, and the suspicion between the two men grows as Byung-su's grip on his own recollections weakens.

The film is a Korean crime thriller directed by Won Shin-yun, who wrote the screenplay with Hwang Jo-yoon. It was released in 2017 and followed Won's The Suspect (2013), coming before The Battle: Roar to Victory (2019). Sul Kyung-gu plays Byung-su, with Kim Nam-gil as Tae-ju, Kim Seol-hyun as Eun-hee, and supporting turns from Oh Dal-su, Hwang Seok-jeong and Kil Hae-yeon among a credited cast of twenty.

On IMDb the film holds 7.2 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 from roughly 400 votes, indicating a solidly regarded thriller with a modest but appreciative audience. It earned about 19 million dollars worldwide.
