Short description
Lauren Adrian is an ambitious reporter for the Chicago Sentinel who hopes to cover the war in Iraq. Instead, her editor sends her to Ciudad Juarez, a Mexican border town, to investigate the disappearances and murders of hundreds of young women. Most of the victims are employees at maquiladoras, factories that produce goods for American corporations. To gather information and uncover the truth behind the crimes, Lauren goes undercover as a factory worker, a decision that puts her own safety at risk.
The film was written and directed by Gregory Nava, following his previous work on My Family and Selena. Jennifer Lopez stars as Lauren Adrian and also served as a producer on the project alongside Nava and Simon Fields. The cast includes Martin Sheen, Antonio Banderas, Maya Zapata, Sônia Braga, and Kate del Castillo.
Produced in the United States with a budget of 21 million USD, Bordertown earned 7 million USD at the worldwide box office. The movie has received moderate reception from audiences, holding a 6/10 rating on IMDb based on 12,000 votes and a 6.3/10 rating on TMDB from 372 votes.

- In one scene of the film, Jennifer Lopez’s character tells Martin Sheen, who plays her boss, that “...it’s better not to be Mexican in this country.” Interestingly, she says this to a man whose real name is Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez, and who adopted the stage name “Martin Sheen” due to difficulties finding roles stemming from the name given to him by his parents, immigrants from Ireland (mother) and Spain (father).

The peak of the crimes occurred between 1993 and 2001. The exact number of abducted and murdered girls is a matter of debate.
