Black Adam

Black Adam centres on Teth Adam, a man from ancient Egypt who was granted extraordinary abilities by the gods and then imprisoned for thousands of years. When he is finally released from his earthly tomb in the present day, he finds a world very different from the one he left behind, and he sets about dispensing his own harsh brand of justice. His arrival draws the attention of the Justice Society, whose members attempt to stop him and force him to reckon with what it means to be a hero rather than simply a powerful being.

The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the tenth of the thirteen features he has directed, arriving between Jungle Cruise (2021) and Carry-On (2024). Dwayne Johnson, who also produced, leads the cast as Black Adam, alongside Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell and Marwan Kenzari. The screenplay is by Adam Sztykiel, Sohrab Noshirvani and Rory Haines, and the production involved 56 credited cast members and 606 credited crew.

Released in October 2022, the film had a budget of 260 million dollars and took 393 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 302,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.8 out of 10 from 7,265 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 307 reviews places it below both audience scores.
