Aftershock

Set in Tangshan during the 1976 earthquake, this drama follows a mother who faces a devastating choice when her seven-year-old twins are trapped under rubble. Informed by rescuers that saving one child will likely kill the other, she chooses her son. While the family believes the daughter perished, she survives and is raised by others. The narrative tracks the long-term emotional consequences of this decision, leading to an unexpected reunion decades later during another seismic event in 2008.

The film was directed by Feng Xiaogang, marking the seventh of 13 films in his career. It follows his work on If You Are the One 2 and precedes Back to 1942. The cast features Xu Fan, Zhang Jingchu, Wang Ziwen, Chen Daoming, Jerry Lee, and Chen Jin.
