Hereafter

Hereafter follows three people on different continents whose lives have been shaped by encounters with death. Marie, a French television journalist, survives a tsunami while on holiday and returns home shaken by the experience. In London, a young boy named Marcus loses the person closest to him and searches for answers. In the United States, George, a factory worker, has carried since childhood an ability to communicate with the dead, a gift that has left him unable to lead a normal life. The three stories move toward one another as each character looks for understanding.

Clint Eastwood directed the film, the thirty-first of the forty he has directed in chronological order, following Invictus and preceding J. Edgar. Peter Morgan wrote the screenplay, and Eastwood produced with Kathleen Kennedy and Robert Lorenz. Matt Damon plays George, Cécile de France plays Marie, and Bryce Dallas Howard appears as Melanie, among a credited cast of forty-five.

Released in October 2010, the film runs 129 minutes. Made for a budget of 50 million dollars, it took in about 105 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from roughly 98,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from around 1,856 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 from 231 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
