A fragment of the kryptonite asteroid destroyed in an earlier mission falls into Gotham Harbor, and when Batman investigates the wreckage he finds someone trying to steal his boat. The thief turns out to be a teenage girl with powers resembling Superman's, speaking a language no one recognizes. Superman steps in to calm her, and once she is brought to the Batcave the heroes learn she is Kara Zor-El, a Kryptonian and Superman's cousin. Her arrival draws the attention of Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips, who wants to use her for his own purposes, forcing Batman and Superman to combine their efforts again.
The film is an animated DC Universe original movie directed by Lauren Montgomery, who also produced it with Bobbie Page, from a screenplay by Tab Murphy. It was the fifth of the ten features Montgomery directed in the chronological order given, arriving between Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths and Batman: Year One. Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy voice Superman and Batman, with Summer Glau as Kara, Andre Braugher as Darkseid, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman and Julianne Grossman as Big Barda.
Released on 28 September 2010, the film runs 79 minutes and was made for about 4 million dollars. It holds a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 30,000 votes and 7.2 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 800 votes, indicating a modest but fairly consistent level of approval from audiences on both platforms.
