Short description
A portal transports Cpt. Artemis and an elite unit of soldiers to a strange world where powerful monsters rule with deadly ferocity. Faced with relentless danger, the team encounters a mysterious hunter who may be their only hope to find a way home.

What's left behind the scenes

  • On the second day, the film was pulled from release in China due to a racist joke and was soon banned on China's largest film database, Douban. The offensive scene from the film was removed.
  • The landscapes needed for filming were found in South Africa and Namibia.
  • The scene where the creature attacks the army's 'Hummer' was filmed in the Cape Town area near the town of Atlantis. The local dunes are known for their pristine white sand.
  • Three hours' drive from Cape Town is a state-protected national park – the Cederberg mountain range. The scene on Stone Island, where Artemis and the Hunter hide from the monster, was filmed there.
  • Filmmakers also needed to find a location in the 'real world' from which the soldiers are transported to the world of monsters. These scenes were filmed in the Tankwa Karoo National Park in South Africa. Remote from civilization and strewn with black rocks, the park is practically deserted, with temperatures fluctuating from 45°C during the day to 5°C at night.
