Bleeding Steel

Bleeding Steel is a 2017 Hong Kong-Chinese science fiction action film directed by Leo Zhang, his first feature. Jackie Chan stars as Lin Dong, a special forces agent who, thirteen years after a failed mission to protect a genetic scientist, is drawn back into the same world when research connected to that operation resurfaces through a science fiction novel. He takes on the protection of a young woman, Nancy, a student who holds the key to the mystery, while a masked, seemingly unstoppable soldier closes in on her. Lin also wrestles with a personal loss from the same period. A young hacker joins him as an ally.

Cui Siwei, Leo Zhang and Erica Xia-Hou wrote the screenplay, and the large credited cast of 35 includes Show Lo as Leeson, Ouyang Nana as Nancy and Chi Chi, Erica Xia-Hou as Susan, Callan Mulvey as Andre and Tess Haubrich as the Woman in Black. Zhang went on to direct Fox Hunt in 2025. With a budget of 65 million US dollars, the production was a substantial international undertaking, and Chan's involvement places it among his later roles. Reception sits in mixed territory: film critics rated it 3.6 out of 10 across 17 reviews, while audiences are more tolerant, giving it 5.2 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 12,000 votes and 6 out of 10 on TMDB from 586 votes.
