The Trotsky

Leon Bronstein is a Montreal high school student convinced he is the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky, the Russian revolutionary. He begins by stirring up trouble at his father's clothing factory, organizing the workers and launching a hunger strike, which leads his father to send him to public school as punishment. There, undeterred, he sets out to organize the students into a union and spread his revolutionary ideals, running up against the school principal and the apathy of classmates who would rather not be mobilized. Along the way he meets Alexandra, a lawyer he becomes certain he is destined to marry.

The 2010 Canadian comedy was directed by Jacob Tierney, who also wrote the screenplay, with Kevin Tierney producing. It was Tierney's first directed feature, followed by Preggoland in 2014. Jay Baruchel plays Leon, with Emily Hampshire as Alexandra, Geneviève Bujold as Denise Archambault, Colm Feore as Principal Berkhoff, Jessica Paré as Laura and Tommie-Amber Pirie as Sarah Bronstein. The credited cast runs to 41 names.

Made for a budget of 6 million USD, the film runs 113 minutes and is a Canadian production from Park Ex Pictures.
