Barney's Version follows Barney Panofsky, a television producer who has spent decades drinking, chasing women and arguing about hockey. He has been married three times, and his third wife, Miriam, is the love of his life, though he met her while attending his second wedding. A memory of Boogie, a friend he admired, and an unresolved death hang over his past, and a former acquaintance's memoir accuses him of murder. Approaching old age, Barney sets out to tell his own version of events. The film is based on Mordecai Richler's novel of the same name and was directed by Richard J. Lewis, his second feature after K-9: P.I. (2002), from a screenplay by Michael Konyves. Paul Giamatti plays Barney, with Dustin Hoffman as his father Izzy, Rosamund Pike as Miriam, Minnie Driver as the second Mrs. Panofsky, Scott Speedman as Boogie and Rachelle Lefevre as Clara. It was produced by Robert Lantos across Italy, Canada and the United States on a budget of about 30 million dollars, and took roughly 8 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3 out of 10 from around 27,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 out of 10 from about 500 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 132 reviews sits below the audience scores.
