xXx: Return of Xander Cage

Vin Diesel returns as Xander Cage, the extreme-sports enthusiast turned government operative who was presumed dead. Living in self-imposed exile, he is drawn back into service when a weapon of enormous destructive power, known as Pandora's Box, falls into dangerous hands. His handler, Augustus Gibbons, is part of the world he left behind. To recover the device, Xander must go up against Xiang, a formidable fighter leading a syndicate of international criminals who have their own designs on it. Xander assembles a team of adrenaline-driven specialists who do not match what his superiors had in mind, and he comes to suspect that a traitor inside the organization is working with interests at the highest levels. The fate of the wider world rests on the outcome.

The film is directed by D. J. Caruso, whose earlier work includes Disturbia and Eagle Eye; it arrived in 2017, between The Disappointments Room and Redeeming Love, and was written by F. Scott Frazier. Vin Diesel also produced. Alongside him, the cast includes Donnie Yen, Ruby Rose, Deepika Padukone, Toni Collette and Samuel L. Jackson, among 41 credited performers and 140 credited crew. Made for 85 million dollars, it took in 346 million worldwide, a strong return on its budget for an action release.

Audience response was moderate: on IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from around 102,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from over 9,300 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 out of 10 from 147 reviews places it below both audience scores.
