The Bourne Legacy
Short description
The Bourne Legacy follows Aaron Cross, an operative trained under a secret government program called Outcome. Outcome was designed to produce agents capable of working alone on high-risk missions, and Cross is one of its products. When Jason Bourne's actions expose part of the conspiracy behind the earlier Treadstone program, officials in charge of Outcome decide that the agents connected to it have become a liability and move to eliminate them. Cross survives an attempt on his life and goes on the run, eventually making contact with Dr. Marta Shearing, a scientist who worked on the program. Together they try to stay ahead of the people hunting them while Cross searches for a way to keep functioning without the support of the agency that created him.
The film is directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplay with his brother Dan Gilroy. It is the third film he directed, after Michael Clayton and Duplicity, and it came out in 2012. Jeremy Renner plays Cross, with Rachel Weisz as Shearing and Edward Norton as Byer, a CIA official overseeing the program. Stacy Keach, Dennis Boutsikaris and Oscar Isaac appear in supporting roles. The production involved a large credited cast and crew, and it was made on a budget of 130 million dollars, going on to earn about 277 million dollars worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.6 from roughly 327,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from around 6,300 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 from 231 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.

- Footage from inside the American Airlines plane shows the correct number – 777, while footage from outside shows 747, a type of aircraft no longer used by that airline.
- Jeremy Renner's fee for playing the lead role in this film is $5,000,000, which is much less than Matt Damon’s ('The Bourne Identity' – $10,000,000, 'The Bourne Supremacy' – $10,000,000, 'The Bourne Ultimatum' – $20,000,000).
- Before the film was seriously considered for production, director Paul Greengrass jokingly suggested naming the fourth Bourne film "Bourne Excess."
- Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Alex Pettyfer, Joel Edgerton, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz, Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Luke Evans, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Benjamin Walker, and Aaron Eckhart were considered for the lead role.
- The film is based on the series of novels by Robert Ludlum about Jason Bourne (1980 – 1990).
- Bayer says he found a video on YouTube of Treadstone project leaders filmed at a party. The events of the film unfold concurrently with "The Bourne Ultimatum" (2007), which, based on the date information mentioned in it, takes place before February 2005. The first video was not uploaded to YouTube until April of that year.
- To detain Aaron Cross and Marta, they take a parked Manila police car – a Toyota Corolla. But when the car turns onto a busy street, it becomes a Toyota Camry.
- In the climactic chase in Manila, LARX #3 (Luis Ozawa Changchien) is driving a Manila Police patrol car – a Toyota Camry. The Camry is a fairly expensive car in the Philippines – the Manila police do not drive such cars.
- Matt Damon turned down the role of Jason Bourne because he did not want to star in a film without the involvement of Paul Greengrass (director of 'The Bourne Supremacy' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'), so the screenwriters created a new protagonist.
- The film was delivered to theaters under the code name "Demonstrator." The film was shot under this false title.
- The words “No More” written on the mirror in the hotel room are an anagram of the fictional surname Cross gave to Marta – “Monroe”.
- When Jeremy Renner was asked which scenes were the most difficult for him, he replied that it was the scenes with motorcycle riding in Manila with Rachel Weisz sitting behind him, because at those moments he was responsible for both of them. At the film's press conference, Weisz was asked about the same scene: “What was it like riding a motorcycle through Manila with Jeremy Renner?” To which she replied: “It was really scary! Jeremy never told me when we were in Manila, but it was the scariest stunt for him because he was responsible for my life. He never told me this in Manila, and thank God, because it would have scared me even more. I didn’t even have to do anything, just hold on to Renner. It was just terrifying.”
