Steak is a 2007 French-Canadian comedy set in a near-future version of 2016, where cosmetic surgery has become a routine part of youth culture. Georges and Blaise were childhood friends until a violent incident at school tore them apart: Georges was responsible, but Blaise took the blame and spent seven years in a psychiatric hospital. On his release, Blaise finds that Georges has moved on and wants nothing to do with him, having joined a clique known as the Chivers, who distinguish themselves through red jackets and boots, milk, sport trucks and a brutal game combining cricket with mental arithmetic. Blaise sets out to win back his friend, a project that draws him into a tangle of mistaken identities and the aggrieved acquaintances of his various doubles.
The film is the first feature directed by Quentin Dupieux, who also wrote the screenplay; among the sixteen films he has directed in chronological order, it precedes Rubber. It was produced by Jean Cottin, Thomas Langmann and André Rouleau, and the cast is led by Eric Judor as Blaise and Ramzy Bedia as Georges, with Jonathan Lambert, Vincent Belorgey, Sébastien Akchoté-Bozović and Laurent Nicolas among the credited performers. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 294 votes.
