Asphalt Burning is an action comedy about Roy, a racing enthusiast whose wedding plans unravel after a chaotic stag night and a defeat in a pre-wedding race at the hands of his fiancée's ex. With the marriage in doubt, Roy takes on a challenge from a new rival: a race on Germany's Nürburgring, which he hopes will win back his bride. The film is the third entry in the Burnout trilogy, following the earlier Norwegian road-racing comedies, and its route runs through Norway, Sweden, Denmark and finally Germany.
Hallvard Bræin directed, having previously made Burning and Burning 2 and later Gold Run. Christopher Grøndahl and Kjetil Indregard wrote the screenplay, and John M. Jacobsen, Petter J. Borgli and M. Reza Bahar produced. Anders Baasmo Christiansen leads as Roy, alongside Ida Husøy, Sven Nordin, Otto Jespersen, Henrik Mestad and Ruby O. Fee, with a credited cast of 21. The production was a German-Norwegian co-production made for about 8 million USD.
Released in October 2020, the film took roughly 4 million USD worldwide, less than its budget. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from about 3,100 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.6 from around 131 votes, indicating modest audience approval for this closing chapter of the trilogy.
