Short description
Set during the Second World War, this film follows Polish fighter pilots who join the Royal Air Force to battle the Luftwaffe. After fleeing the invasion of their homeland, these aviators must overcome British mistrust and prejudice to prove their skills in the air. Their primary goal is to stop the German advance to protect Great Britain and keep the hope of a free Poland alive.
Directed by David Blair, this production followed his earlier works Vicious Circle and Whatever Love Means. The movie stars Iwan Rheon as Jan Zumbach and Milo Gibson as John Kent, with a supporting cast that includes Stefanie Martini, Marcin Dorociński, Kryštof Hádek, and Nicholas Farrell. What's left behind the scenes
- The flashback scenes, which took place in Poland, were filmed in the UK because winter in Eastern Europe was warm and snowless.
- The aerial combat scenes were filmed using mock-ups of Hurricane fighter fuselages, full-scale mock-ups of the fighters themselves, one actual fighter (only 9 remain in the world), and digital technology.
- White Waltham Airport west of London served as the location for the RAF base in Northolt, because there were too few buildings remaining in Northolt from World War II, while Northolt still has earth runways with grass growing on them.
