The In-Laws
Short description
The In-Laws is a 2003 action comedy about two very different fathers who are thrown together when their children become engaged. Jerry Peyser is a cautious, mild-mannered podiatrist who likes order and calm. His daughter Melissa is marrying Mark Tobias, and meeting Mark's father, Steve, turns Jerry's orderly world upside down. Steve claims to be a CIA agent, and his life is a whirl of undercover operations, shootouts and dangerous deals with international criminals. Whether or not Jerry wants any part of it, he is pulled into Steve's chaotic world just as the wedding approaches.
The film was directed by Andrew Fleming, its fifth feature after Bad Dreams, Threesome, The Craft and Dick, and it came before Nancy Drew. The screenplay was written by Ed Solomon, Nat Mauldin and Andrew Bergman. Michael Douglas plays Steve, with Albert Brooks as Jerry. Ryan Reynolds appears as Mark, Candice Bergen as Steve's ex-wife Judy, and Lindsay Sloane and Maria Ricossa play Melissa and Katherine. Produced with a budget of 40 million US dollars, the film took in about 27 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 5 out of 10 based on 136 reviews, while on TMDB its audience rating is 5.6 out of 10 from 319 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- The rehearsal scene for the wedding banquet was filmed in specially constructed sets in a pavilion. The sets depict a slightly altered version of the Signature Ballroom, located on top of one of Chicago’s skyscrapers, as required by the plot. It took eight weeks to build them.
