Cosmoball

In the year 2071, a galactic war has left Earth transformed. The Moon has been shattered, the climate has shifted, and a vast alien vessel hangs above the planet. Inside it, a stadium hosts cosmoball, a fast-paced contest between human and alien athletes that the whole galaxy watches. Anton, an ordinary young man searching for work to support his family, discovers he has extraordinary abilities and is recruited to the Earth team. What begins as a chance to help his mother becomes something larger, as the game's outcome carries consequences for the entire planet.

The film is a Russian science-fiction adventure directed by Dzhanik Fayziev, who wrote the screenplay with Andrey Rubanov and Drew Row. It followed his 2017 feature Furious in his directing career. Evgeny Romantsov plays Anton, with Victoria Agalakova, Evgeny Mironov, Ivan Ivanovich, Elizaveta Taychenacheva and Mariya Lisovaya among the cast of 114 credited performers.

Released in August 2020, the film runs 115 minutes and was produced with backing from the Cinema Fund, Russia-1, Luminescence and CTB Film Company. It drew an IMDb rating of 4.7 from around 2,800 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.3 from roughly 260 votes, a smaller and notably more favorable sample.
