Short description

Royal Tramp is a Hong Kong action comedy about Wai Siu Bo, a pimp who rescues Chan Kan Nam, the leader of a revolutionary group called the Heaven and Earth Society. In return, he is inducted into the organisation. When his first assignment goes wrong, he ends up posing as a servant to the Prince, the very man the society is plotting to overthrow. From there he is pulled into a tangle of competing demands and double roles, with the farce building as he tries to satisfy everyone at once. The film is based on Louis Cha's novel The Deer and the Cauldron.

Wong Jing directed and wrote the film, which came eighth among the thirty-seven features he has directed, following Royal Tramp 2 and preceding Casino Tycoon II. Stephen Chow leads as Wai Siu Bo, with Ng Man-tat, Sharla Cheung, Chingmy Yau, Elvis Tsui Kam-Kong and Natalis Chan Pak-Cheung among the twenty-three credited cast members. Jimmy Heung Wah-Sing, Stephen Shiu Yeuk-Yuen and Wong Jing produced for Orange Sky Golden Harvest and Win's Movie Productions. The film runs 106 minutes.

Released in July 1992, it holds a 7.1 rating on IMDb from roughly 4,600 votes and the same score on TMDB from about 135 votes. The two audiences agree closely on the film, and the IMDb figure rests on a much larger number of votes.
