In a politically divided United States, a man tries to get through Thanksgiving dinner without tearing his family apart. A new government measure requires citizens to sign a loyalty oath to the President by the holiday, and Chris and his wife Kai refuse. As relatives gather and two government agents arrive, the arguments at the table escalate into open conflict. The film is a comedy and a thriller at once, built around a single tense holiday evening.
Ike Barinholtz directed and wrote the screenplay, and also stars as Chris, with Tiffany Haddish as Kai, Billy Magnussen, John Cho, Carrie Brownstein and Jon Barinholtz in supporting roles. Barinholtz was among the producers alongside Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield. The film runs 93 minutes.
The Oath received a mixed reception. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from about 5,200 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 108 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 6 out of 10 from 88 reviews, so critics and audiences landed in similar territory.
